The Ostrich, (Struthio camelus), is a large flightless bird native to Africa. It is the only living species of its family, Struthionidae and its genus, Struthio. Ostriches share the order Struthioni formes with the kiwis, emus, and other ratites. It is distinctive in its appearance, with a long neck and legs and the ability to run at maximum speeds of about 70 kilometers per hour (43 mph), the top land speed of any bird. An ostrich is a "ratite" -a flightless bird from the same family as the emu, cassowary, rhea, & kiwi. The mature ostrich stands six to nine feet tall and weights in at between 90 & 160 kilogram.

Ostrich eggs can weigh up to 1.4 kg each and may feed as many as 12 people.
They can weigh anything between 60 and 130 kg.
